At Hamilton West School we strive to make the transition into school as easy and friendly as possible for children and their families. If possible, please complete this enrolment form a few months before your child turns 5 so we can plan our staffing and classroom allocations.
Before you complete the enrolment form, please read the following:
STEP 1 – Check that you are living within our School Zone.
STEP 2 – You will need the following documents when completing the enrolment form:
- Proof of Address: rates notice or rental agreement or utility bill (internet or electricity)
- Birth Certificate or Passport
- Immunisation Record
- Visa Information (for Migrant Families only)
STEP 3 – Complete the online enrolment form
Next Enrolment Steps
Once you have completed the online enrolment form, and a place has been confirmed for your child at Hamilton West School, one of our Deputy Principals will contact you. The next steps are as follows:
STEP 4 – We will make contact with you. If there are documents you still need to provide us before your child starts school, We will discuss it with you over the phone.
STEP 5 – We will book a time for you to come in for purchasing uniform and a school tour.
STEP 6 – You will come in for your appointment – uniform fitting and purchase.
STEP 7 – If you have time, our enrollment support person will take you for a tour of the school. During this tour, we discuss important information you need to know before starting (you can also find this information below). We will also meet the teacher if possible.
STEP 8 – We may take you to your child’s class on their first day if you require it (usually if you didn’t have a tour of the school prior).
NOTE: Students who move out of zone
The Board of Trustees takes a proactive role and reserves the right to strictly enforce in-zone eligibility requirements to manage unprecedented roll growth.
If a child moves out of zone while attending Hamilton West School, please advise the office immediately. If the stay has been of short duration (6 terms or less), the family may be asked to leave the school by the Board. In most instances, current students will be allowed to complete their education at Hamilton West School, however siblings will not be able to enrol and will have to go to ballot (out-of-zone procedures apply). Discovery of failure to notify the school of a change of address out of zone may result in an immediate review of the enrolment.
School Zone
This is the enrolment zone for Hamilton West School. When enrolling your child, it is essential that you provide proof of address as specified by our enrolment process. New students cannot start school until this has been provided and enrolment accepted.

Out of Zone Enrolments
- Each year the Board will determine the number of places that are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone.
- The Hamilton West School website will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.
Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:
- Priority 1: Siblings of current students
- Priority 2: Siblings of former students
- Priority 3: Children of former students
- Priority 4: Children of employees or Board Members
- Priority 5: All other applicants
If there are more applicants in the first, second, third, or fourth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the secretary under the Education and Training Act 2020.
Parents will be informed within 5 days after the ballot date of their application status.
Ballot for Term 4 2026:
The Hamilton West Board of Trustees have opened 6 spaces for Year 0 students in Term 4 2026. A ballot will take place for those Year 0 students on the waiting list students who do not live in the Hamilton West School zone. Priority will be given first to students with current siblings at the school.
The ballot will take place on Wednesday, the 2nd of September 2026. Families will be notified of the outcome by Friday, the 4th September.
Ballot for Term 1 2027:
The Hamilton West Board of Trustees have opened 10 spaces for Year 1 students in Term 1 2027. A ballot will take place for those current Year 0 students on the waiting list who do not live in the Hamilton West School zone. Priority will be given first to students with current siblings at the school.
The ballot will take place on Wednesday, the 28th of October 2026. Families will be notified of the outcome by Friday, the 30th October 2026.

Information for Starting School
Uniform & Stationery
Hamilton West students wear a school uniform and these can be purchased from the office. Uniform information can be found below. School Office hours are 8am to 4pm during term time.
Stationery lists for all year levels are available on the school website or can be collected from the school office. Parents have the flexibility to purchase stationery from any retailer of their choice.
Stepping Stones Programme
The school runs a very successful transition to school programme called Stepping Stones for new entrants. New entrants are invited to come along to school for four Friday mornings prior to their fifth birthday. The session times run from 9.00 am – to 11.10 am.
Children may start school on their 5th birthday. The school office will contact you with the dates when your child can attend Stepping Stones. You can contact Susan for further information.
