Hamilton West School
Our Best Always
Welcome to
Hamilton West School
Our Best Always
At Hamilton West School we strive to create an environment where our children feel a sense of identity and belonging. We also pride ourselves on the quality relationships that exist between teachers, parents and students. The school promotes a restorative approach to relationships.
We are proud of our academic, cultural, artistic and sporting achievements. A very high percentage of our students achieve at or above the expected level for their age/year group. Each year we celebrate the fact that so many of our past pupils receive academic and sporting awards, and are in leadership roles at the local high schools.
As a full primary school, we focus strongly on reading, writing and mathematics while providing a rich varied curriculum immersed in Inquiry Learning.
Meeting students’ needs is the focus of our teaching programmes. Teachers are enthusiastic and committed to providing quality learning opportunities for our students. We provide a range of learning support and extension opportunities for our students.
Providing opportunities for students’ voices is important to us at Hamilton West School. This may include what is taught in the classroom, the school environment and recreation and sporting opportunities.
The school caters for involvement in summer and winter sporting codes as well as providing for the students who wish to participate in a less competitive range of physical activities. We always have students who receive major awards and gain representative honours in the sport.
Our school has a Kapa Haka group that we are very proud of. The group assist with many of our school occasions and represent us at competitions. We provide a range of taking musical opportunities, including forming a school band each year. It is a pleasure being the Principal of this great New Zealand school.

Mufti Day Tomorrow
Thu Feb 23 04:31pmWe all know the devastation that Cyclone Gabrielle has had on our nation. It is heartbreaking to learn what our people have experienced over the past week, and continue to endure in the aftermath. We want to connect with the people in need. On Friday 24th of February Hamilton West will have a Mufti Day to raise funds for Twyford School, a school in the Hawkes Bay affected by the cyclone. If your child is participating in Mufti Day, we ask that you please get them to bring to school a gold coin donation. If you are wanting to donate more than this, you are most welcome to donate this directly to the school or give this to your child to bring to school on Friday.
